Daniel Ausema

 

			My typical contributor's bio goes something like, "Daniel Ausema has a background in experiential education and journalism and is now a stay-at-home dad, writing furiously during naptime and Sesame Street. His writing and interests span a broad range of genres and topics, but most often deal with the fantastic and the surreal. He lives in Colorado at the foot of the Rocky Mountains."
	I'd say that's a pretty complete summary. To add a bit to it, I grew up in rural western Michigan and retain a love of wide open spaces, glacial lakes, and tall trees. I attended Calvin College and earned a BA with honors in English and Spanish. Throughout college, I worked summers at Camp Roger as a camp counselor, an experience that has had a tremendous impact on who I am today. About a year after college, I married and moved to metro Detroit in eastern Michigan so my wife could attend medical school. Eastern Michigan is a very different place from western Michigan, but I still made many good friends there. I taught part-time, physical education and computers, and worked in adventure education--team-building and high ropes courses--for a variety of organizations. In 2004 my son was born, and in 2005 our family moved to Colorado.
