Darkness Comes Without a Song
: Ahraem is the son of a vanished people and a musician who controls an unknown magic through his music. As he searches for his people and grows in his power, he finds himself drawn to take revenge on the nation that drove off his ancestors and destroyed their forests. That nation, he finds, is itself in the midst of a bloody revolution.
Caught up in the rebellion are Kyrali, the daughter of a chieftain whose family is bound by an oath of peace, even during this time of revolution, and Pryan, a priest seeking a relic that may reveal more of his religion’s history than his superiors want known. And leading the revolutionary army is Cavin, Kyrali’s former lover who has forsaken his own vow of peace. As the events of the war throw these four people together and apart and together again, they struggle to understand their roles in the balance of war and peace, justice and revenge. Signs and Wonders of the Genies and the Deaf
: Born blind in a planet colonized by the Deaf, Joseph is an outcast if there ever was one. Yet because of his studies into the long-lost Genies, humans who learned genetic manipulation, he joins a diverse group to seek out the remnants of that people. The group includes a government official whose past exploits made her a hero, but also a danger to Joseph because of his past; a famous runner and his sister who suffer a genetic disorder and hope for healing; and Joseph's former ward who translates for him, and learns her own strength as the story develops.
When they reach the abandoned city of the Genies, though, they discover deeper mysteries than just the disappearance of the Genies. Weaving through this primary storyline is the story of a primitive descendant of the Genies as his village encounters the same mystery that might threaten all human life on this planet. This novel will soon be complete. |

Three Flamingos
: In Sixteenth Century Spain, thirteen-year-old Mateo longs for the life of a nobleman. Instead his Moorish ancestry makes him a fugitive, an enemy of the Spanish throne even as his father fights for Spain in the army. When the remote camp that was supposed to be his protection is overrun by soldiers, Mateo flees alone across Spain and beyond its borders, and finally to the province of Friesland in the Netherlands. In the following months he will be a captive, a traveling singer, an invalid and a farmer, but always he will be looking over his shoulder for those seeking him, especially Buendí, a noble Spanish officer scarcely older than he is.
Following him in all these adventures is a strange fortune he was told of three flamingos, a fortune that promises he will find what he desires. But what does he desire? A noble title perhaps, or his father’s safe return? A Spain that accepts him, a life of adventure, a life of peace? All of these at one time or another, but which will he find, and what must he endure before he finds it? This is a YA historical fiction that unites my love of Spain and the Spanish language with my own Frisian and Dutch ancestry. This novel will soon be complete. |
